We know very little about the orcas of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico, and at MAREA we believe that getting to know them better is essential to contributing to their conservation.
Through our “name the orcas” project, we aim to identify them as individuals. This initiative not only helps us recognize them, but also directly supports research and conservation efforts.
Some of these names have already been used in scientific publications, strengthening their recognition and protection within academic and environmental fields.
This project focuses on naming the orcas of the Baja California Peninsula to support their research and conservation. By giving them names, it becomes easier to recognize them as individuals, and these names have already been used in scientific publications.

We aim to raise awareness about the ongoing threats to marine life caused by human impact.
