Guardians of Baja

At MAREA, we go beyond environmental education—we integrate emotional education as a key tool to address deep social challenges, such as child sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Baja California Sur is one of the states with the highest incidence of these issues, and we firmly believe that there can be no true conservation without emotional well-being.

Why integrate emotions with marine conservation?

How can we ask a child to care for the ocean if they cannot first care for themselves?

Many children grow up in contexts where their emotions have been silenced and shaped by extremely complex experiences. In those circumstances, talking about empathy toward animals or the ocean is difficult if we don’t first work on recognizing their own emotions, their safety, and their self-esteem.

That’s why at MAREA we work from the roots.

We support girls and boys in processes of self-awareness, resilience, and emotional healing, while also strengthening their connection with the ocean and its conservation.

Whale Museum

We take children to places where they can get to know marine animals up close, such as the Whale Museum located in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

This museum is dedicated to the outreach, study, and conservation of cetaceans and the marine ecosystems they inhabit.

Take them to the Sea

Many of them have grown up near the incredible biodiversity of the Gulf of California, but have never had the opportunity to experience it.

Through field trips, we want them to witness marine animals in their natural habitat and learn to value them through direct connection.

JOIN THE TIDE OF CHANGE

We aim to raise awareness about the ongoing threats to marine life caused by human impact.
